FSC® CoC (Chain of Custody) certification confirms that forest-based materials and products used in your company are identified, supervised and processed in accordance with the requirements of the FSC® system.
The FSC® CoC certificate enables:
• sale of products with the FSC® mark
• participation in tenders requiring FSC® certification
• cooperation with foreign customers
• confirmation of the responsible origin of the raw material
• building credibility in the supply chain
FSC® is one of the most recognizable and credible certification systems for forestry and wood products in the world.
FSC® CoC (short for Forest Stewardship Council – Chain of Custody) is a certification system that allows you to track the origin of forest materials such as wood or paper at every stage of production and distribution – in short, "from forest to finished product.".
Certification confirms that:
• materials come from responsibly managed sources,
• are correctly identified and separated,
• production processes are supervised and documented,
• the company meets the requirements of the FSC-STD-40-004 standard.
Any organization in the supply chain that wants to sell products bearing the FSC® mark and declaration must have a valid FSC® CoC certificate.
FSC® CoC certification applies to companies that process, produce or trade forest-based materials.
Most often these are:
Processing companies:
• sawmills
• carpentry shops
• manufacturers of structural elements
• producers of floors, panels, and wainscoting
• window and door manufacturers
Trading and distribution companies:
• wholesalers
• distributors
• importers
Paper and packaging industry:
• paper and cardboard producers
• printing houses
• publishing houses
• producers of paper and cardboard packaging
Furniture industry:
• furniture manufacturers
• renovation companies
• manufacturers of wooden accessories
If your company handles materials made of wood, paper or their derivatives in any way, FSC® CoC certification may be required by your customers.
To obtain FSC® CoC certification, an organization must implement a system for monitoring certified material that complies with the requirements of the FSC-STD-40-004 standard.
In practice, this means the need to:
• identification and tracking of purchased FSC® materials - legality of obtained raw materials
• separation of certified and non-certified materials
• keeping records and accounting of materials
• supervising production processes
• staff training
• correct use of FSC® markings
• undergo a certification audit
• maintaining compliance through annual supervisory audits
The system described above must function in accordance with the requirements of the FSC-STD-40-004 standard continuously throughout the validity period of the certificate.

The certification process includes:
• analysis of the scope of the company's activities only in relation to the requirements of FSC-STD-40-004
• assessment of the implementation of requirements,
• certification audit at the organization's headquarters - i.e. an auditor's visit to the company
• issuing a certificate after a positive conformity assessment,
• annual supervisory audits.
The scope and duration of the audit depend on the size of the company, the number of locations and the complexity of its processes.
The FSC® CoC certificate not only ensures compliance with the system requirements, but also provides real support for sales and company development.
Key benefits:
• access to new markets, including foreign markets
• increasing competitiveness in tenders
• possibility of marking products with the FSC® mark
• organizing supervision over materials
• strengthening the image of a responsible supplier
• meeting the expectations of conscious customers
