Seria norm ISO 3834 reguluje wymagania jakościowe stawiane firmom spawalniczym oraz ustala zasady zapewnienia jakości wyrobów spawanych. Obejmuje zarówno produkcję seryjną, jak i produkcję jednostkową między innymi w następujących obszarach produkcyjnych: rurociągi, budowa kontenerów, aparatura, sprzęt gospodarstwa domowego i rolniczego, dźwigi, mosty, czy inne elementy spawane. ISO 3834 jest wiążącym wymaganiem różnych norm produktowych, takich jak np. EN 1090 lub Dyrektywy ciśnieniowej. Dlatego, w wielu przypadkach spełnienie wymagań normy ISO 3834 jest obowiązkowe.
